Steaming Horse Dung

Betcha thought I've been slacking off, huh? Well, as I figured, I didn't do the Saturday workout, as I wanted to spend some time with my husband, who didn't even fish that day(!) - so we both made sacrifices to the god of quality time. Sunday I finally ventured outside for a workout (I generally use a treadmill at the gym so I can track time and distance more accurately and, more importantly, avoid the potential dangers of trekking around Hooterville in the pre-dawn darkness.) I hit the Suncoast Trail at 3:00pm - the heat was unbearable. As I chugged along, the aroma of hot horse poop haunted my nostrils (a result of living where I do) and the sun roasted my exposed skin. On the positive side, I kept pace for the whole 5 miles! On the downside, I skipped strength training yesterday AM (I have been really tired lately. I can't make it through an evening movie, last night I passed out before the exciting conclusion of "Hollow Man 2".) Today I did 4 miles without a hitch, so I'm back on track for mid-September!

By the way, I'm still looking for donations for my January exploits at Walt Disney World (for Joints in Motion). If you're feeling charitable, click here.

Big Whoop

I'm not looking for your affirmation and praise. Just wanted to let you know that I've been to the gym 4 days in a row. Wow, huh? I'ts week 5 of the 12 week plan and (barring the weekend) I will have completed all of the workouts. Woo hoo! I say "barring the weekend" because I haven't seen the hubby in a week and he's leaving me again on Thursday, so I definitely want to spend some qualtiy time - I should be able to squeeze my workouts in though (but I'm so great with the excuses...)

In other news, I'm keeping up a good pace - around a 13 minute mile (straight up walking - my knees have periodically made their presence known as of late.) Feeling confident about Cali. I'd love to run a few miles in January, but we'll see....

Aaaaiiigggghhh!

Help me! I have GOT to get my big, no-working-out butt to the gym this week. I skipped today because I was spending quality time wth the hubby before he skeedadled off to Las Vegas for the week (big trade show) until the early hours of the morning (ok, midnight but I've been really tired lately, so that's a late night for me.) That means I follow my week 5 (!) workouts to the "T" for the rest of the week. No excuses...

I Blame VH-1!

Damn VH-1! They started "I Love the 70's, Volume 2" this week (and each and every episode features Peter Frampton, so they're all must-see!) I also had 3 nights this week to watch and write about bad TV shows. So, needless to say (do I really need to say it?) I sucked this week. One workout. ONE workout! I hope Saturday and Sunday count for this week, so I won't feel quite so bad. At least I am not officially training for Disney World (my charity race) yet - that starts in October - but I don't want to poop out in California. Someone needs to kick me in the butt! At least I can watch I Love 1978 and 1979 tonight without worry...2 more Frampton segments..sigh. Workout tomorrow and Sunday - I promise!

Time Flies...When You're A SLACKER!

Yeah, yeah, yeah (insert excuse here)...I did go workout today, really - I was humiliated that I had to do a tricep press with less weight than the elderly lady who used the machine before me - but I deserved that! I do have a few legitimate excuses (second job, house hunting) but overall, not really. But now, I have a mission...

Yes, I have once again signed up to participate in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon (in case you're wondering, yes - I am crazy.) This is, unlike that last time I signed up for this, the last year I am doing this. I just wanted to do a good thing for a charity that is very close to my heart, and actually attempt to have fun this time around, as it's been established that I can complete the course within the time limit. So, now for the begging...

I am taking part in the race this year (I'm not even going to try and say I'm running the race this year. My knees are the primary reason that I'm hanging up my sneaks after January) for Joints in Motion, an arthritis charity. Those who know me are aware that arthritis is an affliction that I have had quite a bit of experience with. My Dad deals with it and, thanks to genetics, I'll probably have it when I get older. SO, you can see my reasons for doing the race this year. My website for donations is all set up, so if you're feeling charitable...click here. And of course, check back for updates on Disneyland (coming soon, real soon!) and Walt Disney World. Now that I'm committed (or should be), I'll be updating more often!
